FOCUS Support

Cloudaware fully supports the FinOps Open Cost & Usage Specification (FOCUS), adopting its technical schema to deliver consistent, vendor-neutral technology billing data.

By implementing the FOCUS specification, Cloudaware enables organizations to ingest, normalize, and export billing datasets in a unified format, reducing the complexity of working with different cloud-native billing structures.

Multi-Cloud Schema Mapping

Cloudaware creates a single source of truth for multi-cloud cost data by ingesting raw billing data from major cloud providers and mapping it to standard FOCUS columns. This approach allows FinOps teams to query costs, build showback models, analyze usage, and track spending across providers without maintaining custom logic for each individual billing format.

Cloud Provider Mapping Engine

The Cloudaware mapping engine converts native billing metadata from leading cloud platforms into standardized FOCUS attributes.

Amazon Web Services (AWS)

For Amazon Web Services, Cloudaware translates AWS Data Exports and Cost and Usage Report fields into FOCUS dimensions and metrics, such as mapping AWS cost fields to BilledCost and account structures to ProviderAccountId.

Microsoft Azure

For Microsoft Azure, Cloudaware converts Azure Cost Management MCA and EA export schemas into the unified FOCUS layout, aligning Azure-specific naming conventions with standardized headers.

Google Cloud Platform (GCP)

For Google Cloud Platform, Cloudaware ingests GCP BigQuery Billing Export files and normalizes nested labels, SKU metadata, and resource information into flat, analysis-ready FOCUS columns.

Oracle Cloud Infrastructure (OCI)

For Oracle Cloud Infrastructure, Cloudaware processes OCI Usage and Cost Reports and transforms Oracle-specific structures, including Compartments and Resource OCIDs, into compliant FOCUS dimensions for unified reporting across enterprise infrastructure and database services.

Adopting FOCUS Specification Version 1.2

Cloudaware aligns its data normalization engine with FOCUS Version 1.2. Support for this version ensures that key fields such as ChargeCategory, PricingQuantity, AmortizedCost, and EffectiveCost behave consistently across all supported cloud data streams. This alignment makes Cloudaware cost data ready for interoperable analysis across providers, tools, and reporting workflows.

Dataset Production, Import, and Export Capabilities

Cloudaware supports the full lifecycle of open-specification cost datasets, including production, import, normalization, enrichment, and export. The platform imports raw billing files and produces clean, compliant FOCUS tables, enriching them with contextual data from the Cloudaware CMDB.

Analytics Studio Centralization

All normalized FOCUS datasets are centralized in Analytics Studio. This gives teams a single environment for working with cloud cost data, including running custom SQL queries, building ad-hoc visualizations, preparing reports, and exporting clean datasets to external BI tools, financial systems, or other enterprise platforms.
