FOCUS Billing Data
Cloudaware supports the FinOps Open Cost & Usage Specification (FOCUS), adopting its technical schema to deliver consistent, vendor-neutral technology billing data. By implementing the FOCUS specification, Cloudaware enables organizations to ingest, normalize, and export billing datasets in a unified format, reducing the complexity of working with different cloud-native billing structures.
Multi-Cloud Schema Mapping
Cloudaware ingests raw billing data from major cloud providers and maps it to standard FOCUS columns, creating a single source of truth for multi-cloud cost data.
With a unified schema, FinOps teams can:
- Query costs and compare spending across providers.
- Build showback models using consistent cost dimensions.
- Analyze usage alongside billing data.
- Reduce the custom logic required for individual provider billing formats.
Cloud Provider Mapping Engine
The Cloudaware mapping engine converts native billing metadata into standardized FOCUS attributes.
Amazon Web Services (AWS)
For Amazon Web Services (AWS), Cloudaware translates AWS Data Exports and Cost and Usage Report fields into FOCUS dimensions and metrics. This includes mapping AWS cost fields to billed cost and account structures to provider account dimensions.
Microsoft Azure
For Microsoft Azure, Cloudaware converts Azure Cost Management Microsoft Customer Agreement (MCA) and Enterprise Agreement (EA) export schemas into the unified FOCUS layout, aligning Azure-specific naming conventions with standardized headers.
Google Cloud
For Google Cloud, Cloudaware ingests BigQuery Billing Export data and normalizes nested labels, SKU metadata, and resource information into flat, analysis-ready FOCUS columns.
Oracle Cloud Infrastructure (OCI)
For Oracle Cloud Infrastructure (OCI), Cloudaware processes OCI Usage and Cost Reports and transforms Oracle-specific structures, including compartments and resource OCIDs, into FOCUS dimensions. This supports unified reporting across enterprise infrastructure and database services.
Adopting FOCUS Specification Version 1.2
Cloudaware aligns its data normalization engine with FOCUS Version 1.2 to support consistent interpretation of key fields – such as ChargeCategory, PricingQuantity, AmortizedCost, and EffectiveCost – across supported cloud data streams. This alignment enables interoperable analysis across providers, tools, and reporting workflows.
Dataset Production, Import, and Export
Cloudaware supports the lifecycle of FOCUS datasets, including production, import, normalization, enrichment, and export. The platform imports raw billing files and produces normalized FOCUS tables, enriching them with contextual data from the Cloudaware CMDB.
These datasets provide a consistent foundation for cost reporting and downstream analysis in external BI tools, financial systems, and other enterprise platforms.
Analytics Studio
Normalized FOCUS datasets are centralized in Analytics Studio, giving teams a single environment for working with cloud cost data. Teams can:
- Run custom SQL queries.
- Build ad-hoc visualizations.
- Prepare cost and usage reports.
- Export normalized datasets to external systems.
