Attributes/Dimensions
Dimensions in Advanced Analytics provide the “slice and dice” capabilities for dashboards, CRM Analytics lenses, and external BI tools. Most dimensions are derived from CMDB and Cloudaware configuration data so that analytics stay aligned with how you organize and secure your estate.
Core Identifiers
Common identifiers present on events, metrics, and CRM Analytics datasets include:
- Tenant/organization
- A unique key for the Cloudaware account or organization.
- Cloud account/subscription/project
- Identifiers for AWS accounts, Azure subscriptions, GCP projects, and other provider scopes.
- Resource/CI
- References to CMDB configuration items (servers, databases, clusters, etc.) when the event or metric relates to a specific asset.
These keys allow you to pivot between analytics views and CMDB detail pages.
Business Context
Business‑oriented dimensions are typically sourced from CMDB attributes and normalized tags:
- Application/service – the business service or application the resource or activity belongs to.
- Environment – for example,
dev, stage, prod, or customer‑specific variants. - Business unit/cost center – department, BU, or team responsible for the cost and risk.
- Owner/team – primary owner (user) and owning team or group.
See CMDB Attributes for the underlying field conventions.
Analytics Context
Advanced Analytics introduces additional dimensions specific to analytics usage:
- Module – which Cloudaware module the event or metric is associated with (CMDB, Cost Management, Compliance Engine, etc.).
- Feature – logical feature or capability (for example, “Compliance Policies”, “Service Recovery Dashboard”, “Cost Explorer”).
- Dashboard/report – identifiers and names for dashboards, reports, and CRM Analytics lenses.
- Job/pipeline – identifiers for ingestion, refresh, and export jobs.
These fields are useful for understanding product adoption and usage patterns.
Time Dimensions
CRM Analytics datasets include standard time dimensions:
- Event date/time – the exact timestamp of the event.
- Date – date at day grain (YYYY‑MM‑DD).
- Week/month/quarter/year – calendar time buckets.
- Relative period flags – convenience flags such as “is in last 7 days” or “is in last 28 days” used in filters.
Time dimensions are shared across datasets so that filters apply consistently between dashboards.
Security & RBAC
Because Advanced Analytics is built on Salesforce, analytics dimensions respect Salesforce security:
- Filters can be scoped by tenant, module, account, application, or team.
- CRM Analytics inherits Salesforce‑level sharing rules and role hierarchies.
- Dataset‑level row‑level security ensures users only see data they are permitted to access.
For guidance on configuring access, see Operations RBAC.
