Retries & Timeouts

Use this guide to review how Cloudaware Patch Management uses retries and timeouts to handle temporary patching issues, limit long-running jobs, and flag repeated failures for investigation.

Retries

Retries are used for:

  • Temporary repository or network outages.
  • Short‑lived locking issues with package managers.
  • Brief agent connectivity problems.

Cloudaware avoids unbounded retries, setting limits to prevent jobs from running for too long.

Timeouts

Cloudaware sets sensible timeouts for:

  • Package downloads and installation.
  • Pre‑ and post‑checks.
  • Reboot and post‑reboot verification.

If a host exceeds timeouts repeatedly, Cloudaware records it as a failure in the report for further investigation rather than letting jobs hang.
