AWS CloudWatch

Amazon CloudWatch is AWS’s native monitoring service for metrics, logs, and alarms. Cloudaware Unified Monitoring consumes CloudWatch metrics to provide health and performance visibility for AWS resources.

This guide explains how to work with these metrics in Cloudaware.

What Unified Monitoring Uses​

Typical CloudWatch metrics used in Unified Monitoring include:

  • EC2 instance metrics (CPU, network, disk).
  • ELB/ALB/NLB metrics (latency, request count, error rates).
  • RDS and Aurora database metrics (CPU, connections, storage, replicas).
  • Redshift and other analytics service metrics.
  • Lambda and serverless metrics (invocations, errors, duration).

Prerequisites​

  • CloudWatch metrics are enabled for target services.
  • AWS cloud integration is configured in Cloudaware. See the AWS Integration.
  • IAM role or user with permissions to read CloudWatch metrics and describe AWS resources.
  • Tagging standards (for example, Application, Environment, Owner) applied to monitored resources.

High‑Level Setup​

  1. Configure or verify the AWS integration in Cloudaware.
  2. Confirm that the target AWS resources appear in CMDB and CloudWatch metrics are available.
  3. Build reports, list views and dashboards that use CloudWatch metrics.
