Unified Monitoring FAQ
This FAQ answers common questions about Cloudaware Unified Monitoring.
What Is Cloudaware Unified Monitoring?
Unified Monitoring is the Cloudaware module that consolidates metrics and events from cloud‑native monitoring services, Breeze Agent–powered hosts, and third‑party tools such as Zabbix, then enriches them with CMDB context for alerting and dashboards.
See Overview for a conceptual introduction.
Does Unified Monitoring Replace My Existing Monitoring Tools?
Not necessarily. Cloudaware is designed to augment and unify your existing monitoring stack:
- It can ingest incidents and metrics from tools like Zabbix, New Relic, Datadog, Pingdom, and others through dedicated integrations and webhooks.
- It correlates these signals with CMDB data so you can see which resources are covered and where gaps remain.
Over time, you can decide whether to consolidate on fewer tools or continue using multiple platforms while relying on Cloudaware for coverage analysis and operations reporting.
How Does Unified Monitoring Relate to Zabbix?
Cloudaware typically uses Zabbix as its default agent‑based host monitoring engine. Breeze Agent manages agent deployment and configuration, while Cloudaware CMDB provides the inventory, tagging, and ownership context. Once the Breeze Agent is installed and the Zabbix integration is configured, hosts are automatically enrolled for monitoring.
Can We Monitor AWS Managed Services (Appliances) Where Agents Cannot Run?
Yes. Unified Monitoring uses cloud‑native metrics (for example, from CloudWatch, Azure Monitor, and Google Cloud Monitoring) to track the health of services such as load balancers, managed databases, data warehouses, and serverless components. Where possible, these resources are also linked to CMDB CIs so you can see them in dashboards and alerts.

How Long Are Metrics and Events Retained?
Cloudaware keeps monitoring data for configurable periods using both high‑resolution data and rolled‑up aggregations. Exact retention windows depend on your environment and the agreement with Cloudaware. Use Limits & Quotas and contact your Cloudaware representative for the values that apply to your account.
Where Do Alerts Go?
Alerts generated by Cloudaware Unified Monitoring can:
- Appear in Cloudaware dashboards and alert lists.
- Be sent to email or collaboration tools such as Slack.
- Create incidents in PagerDuty, ITSM tools, or other systems via webhooks.

Who Should Own Unified Monitoring?
Most customers designate:
- A platform or SRE team to own the architecture, integrations, and global alerting standards.
- Application teams to define service‑specific SLOs, golden signals, and playbooks.
- A NOC or operations center to run day‑to‑day monitoring, escalation, and noise‑reduction efforts.
