Performance & Scale
Cloudaware Cost Management ingests detailed provider billing data and processes high-volume datasets through scheduled backend jobs. Processed cost data is then available for analytics, dashboards, reports, and exports.
Use this guide to keep reports, dashboards, exports, and integrations responsive as your cloud estate, billing history, and reporting needs grow.
Designing Efficient Queries and Reports
To keep interactive use fast:
- Filter by time period (for example, a specific month or quarter) rather than querying all history at once.
- Scope reports to relevant dimensions (provider, account/subscription/project, BU, application, environment, customer) instead of querying all data.
- Use summary and aggregate reports for high‑level dashboards, drilling into detail only when needed.
- Reuse well‑tested reports as the basis for dashboards and exports rather than creating many similar variations.
Work with your Cloudaware Technical Account Manager to review reporting design options and performance optimization strategies for large datasets.
Handling Large and Growing Datasets
As billing data accumulates:
- Expect datasets such as AWS CUR, Azure cost management, and Google Cloud billing exports to grow quickly with both time and footprint.
- Use scheduled exports and integrations for heavy downstream analytics rather than running very large ad‑hoc reports.
Monitor report runtimes and dashboard load times as part of regular operations reviews.
Scheduling and Background Processing
To reduce load on interactive users:
- Schedule heavy reports and dashboard snapshots to run during off‑peak hours.
- Pay attention to cadence between export connections and recipes in Advanced Analytics when scheduling to ensure data is up to date
- Coordinate schedules with maintenance windows if necessary
- Use scheduled exports for BI and ITFM integrations instead of ad‑hoc full‑history pulls.
Scaling with Organizational Growth
As your organization adds more clouds, regions, teams, and customers:
- Regularly review whether current scopes, dashboards, and KPIs still meet stakeholders’ needs.
- Split very broad dashboards into persona‑ or BU‑specific views to keep them focused and performant.
- On the contrary, also make sure that executive-level dashboards are available.
- Revisit allocation and model design as new products or business structures emerge so that Cost Management remains aligned with how the business thinks about cost.
