Customization

Cloudaware CMDB ships with a rich schema for cloud provider, on‑premies and third‑party objects. However, most organizations need additional structure and context. Customization lets you extend the CMDB with your own objects, fields, calculated attributes, and enrichment rules, aligning the data model with how you think about applications, services, and risk.

Use Cases

Typical use cases include:

  • Modeling business concepts such as applications, services, and environments and linking them to the underlying infrastructure.
  • Capturing ownership, support, and compliance metadata that does not exist in cloud providers.
  • Normalizing noisy or inconsistent tags into reliable attributes for reporting and automation.
  • Deriving helper fields (for example, environment, cost center, tier) from tags, names, or relationships.

Capabilities

Most customization capabilities are built on the underlying Salesforce/Force.com platform, including support for custom objects, custom fields, formula fields, rollup summaries, and encrypted fields.

Custom Objects

Create custom CMDB objects for business concepts such as applications, services, business units, vendors, or locations. Use this guide when standard CMDB objects do not capture the entity you need to govern, relate to, report on, or secure.

Calculated & Derived Attributes

Calculated attributes, formula fields, rollups, and validation rules derive standardized values from existing CMDB data. Use this guide to normalize ownership, environment, cost center, criticality, coverage, and risk fields without manually updating every record.

Enrichment & Classification Rules

Enrichment turns raw discovery data, tags, labels, and integration signals into consistent business metadata and classifications. Use this guide to improve reporting, application mapping, ownership detection, compliance scoping, and automation inputs.

Custom Fields from Facts

Create custom CMDB fields from discovered facts, custom facts, and integration signals. Use this guide when a fact is available in Cloudaware but needs to become a field for reports, dashboards, policies, automation, or outbound integrations.

CMDB Page Layout Extension

Extend CMDB record layouts so users see the fields, sections, related lists, and actions that matter for their workflows. Use this guide when you need to expose custom fields, highlight operational context, or make CI detail pages easier for teams to use.
