Zabbix

Integrate Zabbix with Cloudaware to inventory monitoring objects and enrich operations reporting with CMDB context.

info
  • Audience: Cloudaware administrators, NOC teams, SRE teams, and monitoring teams
  • Outcome: Zabbix monitoring context is available in Cloudaware for monitoring coverage, event analysis, and operations reporting

Capabilities

The integration supports:

  • Zabbix API connectivity from Cloudaware for monitoring discovery
  • CMDB-enriched monitoring context for infrastructure and application operations
  • Monitoring coverage review for hosts and services managed through Zabbix
  • Operational reporting for Zabbix-related monitoring data in Cloudaware

Prerequisites

Before you begin, make sure you have:

  • Access to a Cloudaware account.
  • A user with access to the Admin Console and permissions to manage cloud accounts, organizations, and integrations (Cloudaware Administrator).
  • Zabbix API URL, for example, https://zabbix.company.com/api_jsonrpc.php.
  • Zabbix username and password with appropriate read access.

Add a Zabbix Instance to Cloudaware

  1. In Cloudaware, go to Admin.
  2. Find Zabbix, then click + ADD.
  3. Enter the following values:
    • API URL: The Zabbix API URL.
    • User: The Zabbix username with read access.
    • Password: The Zabbix password.
    • Disabled: (optional) Enable this option to keep the integration disabled after saving.
  4. Click Save.
  5. Confirm that the integration status indicator is green.
tip

Allow the initial discovery cycle to complete after enabling the integration.

Troubleshooting

note

Initial data collection may take time to complete.

Authentication Fails or Integration Shows Red Status

  • Verify that the Zabbix API URL, username, and password are correct.
  • Confirm that the Zabbix user can sign in to Zabbix directly.
  • Check whether the Zabbix user has read access to the required monitoring data.

No Zabbix Data Appears in Cloudaware

  • Allow the initial discovery cycle to complete.
  • Confirm that the integration is not saved with Disabled enabled.
  • Verify that the Zabbix API endpoint is reachable from Cloudaware.
  • In CMDB Navigator, verify that you are viewing the related Zabbix records.

Unified Monitoring Does Not Show Expected Zabbix Data

  • Confirm that Unified Monitoring is enabled for the Cloudaware account.
  • Verify that the Zabbix integration status indicator is green.
  • Review Zabbix host, trigger, and monitoring scope configuration in the Zabbix app.

Reconfigure or Remove the Integration

warning

To rotate Zabbix credentials or change the API URL, edit the existing integration instead of deleting and re-creating it.

Update the Integration Details

  1. Go to Admin.
  2. Select Zabbix.
  3. Select the specific integration.
  4. Open the three-dot menu (), then click Edit.
  5. Update the required fields.
  6. Click Save.

Remove the Integration from Cloudaware

  1. Go to Admin.
  2. Select Zabbix.
  3. Select the specific integration.
  4. Open the three-dot menu (), then click Delete.
  5. Confirm the deletion if prompted.

Security Notes

  • Use a dedicated Zabbix user for Cloudaware discovery.
  • Grant the Zabbix user only the read access required for monitoring discovery and reporting.
  • Do not reuse personal Zabbix administrator credentials for production integrations.
  • Rotate the Zabbix password according to your organization's credential management policy.
  • Review Zabbix data visibility with your monitoring team, because host names, trigger details, and event context may contain sensitive operational information.
  • Disable or remove unused Zabbix users when the integration is retired.

Next Steps

Cloudaware uses the Zabbix integration for monitoring discovery and Unified Monitoring context.

Once Unified Monitoring is enabled for your Cloudaware account, log in to the Cloudaware Control Hub (Launcher) to access the Zabbix app where you can view and analyze events.
