Tanium

Integrate Tanium with Cloudaware to inventory endpoints and software packages for unified endpoint reporting.

Capabilities​

The integration supports:

  • Read-only discovery of Tanium endpoints, software packages, and software deployment relationships
  • CMDB visibility into endpoint inventory and installed software context
  • Endpoint and software package reporting for security operations and IT operations workflows
  • Search and reporting for Tanium objects using CMDB Navigator, CMDB list views, and reports

Prerequisites​

Before you begin, make sure you have:

  • Access to a Cloudaware account.
  • A user with access to the Admin Console and permissions to manage cloud accounts, organizations, and integrations (Cloudaware Administrator).
  • Tanium customer name or subdomain.
  • Tanium API token with read access.
  • Tanium Gateway enabled according to the requirements documented by Tanium.
  • Optional: read-only access to Tanium Software Packages assigned to the user associated with the API token

Add a Tanium Account to Cloudaware​

  1. In Cloudaware, go to Admin.
  2. Find Tanium Account, then click + ADD.
  3. Enter the following values:
    • Name: A display name for the Tanium integration.
    • Customer Name: The Tanium customer name or subdomain (<customerURL>.taniumcloud.com).
    • API Token: The Tanium API token with read access.
  4. Click Check. Once the validation passed, click Save.
  5. Confirm that the integration status indicator is green.

Allow the initial discovery cycle to complete after enabling the integration.

View Tanium Data in CMDB​

  1. In Cloudaware, open CMDB Navigator.
  2. In the left pane, select TANIUM.
  3. Open an object list, e.g., Tanium Acounts, to view discovered records.

Cloudaware ingests the following Tanium objects:

Troubleshooting​

Initial data collection may take time to complete.

Authentication Fails or Integration Shows Red Status​

  • Verify that the customer name and API token are correct.
  • Confirm that the API token is active and has read access to the required Tanium data.
  • Check that Tanium Gateway is enabled and reachable according to Tanium guidance.

No Tanium Data Appears in CMDB​

  • Allow the initial discovery cycle to complete.
  • Confirm that the Tanium API token can access endpoint and software package data.
  • In CMDB Navigator, verify that you are viewing the TANIUM section and related resources.

Some Endpoints or Software Packages Are Missing​

  • Confirm that the missing endpoints or packages are visible in Tanium.
  • Verify that the API token has access to the scope that contains the missing records.
  • Review recent Tanium inventory changes after the next discovery cycle completes.

Reconfigure or Remove the Integration​

To rotate the Tanium API token, edit the existing integration instead of deleting and re-creating it.

Update the Integration Details​

  1. Go to Admin.
  2. Select Tanium Account.
  3. Select the specific integration.
  4. Open the three-dot menu (⋮), then click Edit.
  5. Update the required fields.
  6. Click Save.

Remove the Integration from Cloudaware​

  1. Go to Admin.
  2. Select Tanium Account.
  3. Select the specific integration.
  4. Open the three-dot menu (⋮), then click Delete.
  5. Confirm the deletion if prompted.

Security Notes​

  • Use a dedicated Tanium API token for Cloudaware discovery.
  • Grant the API token only the read access required for endpoint and software inventory discovery.
  • Do not reuse broad administrator tokens for production integrations.
  • Rotate the Tanium API token according to your organization's credential management policy.
  • Review Tanium inventory visibility with your endpoint security team, because endpoint names, software packages, and deployment relationships may contain sensitive operational context.
  • Revoke unused Tanium API tokens when the integration is retired.
