SolarWinds

Integrate SolarWinds with Cloudaware to inventory nodes, interfaces, and platform servers through the SolarWinds Information Service (SWIS) API.

Capabilities

The integration supports:

  • Read-only discovery of SolarWinds inventory through the SWIS REST API
  • CMDB records for SolarWinds nodes, NPM interfaces, and platform servers
  • Network device and interface visibility for infrastructure inventory and operational reporting
  • Search and reporting for SolarWinds objects using CMDB Navigator, CMDB list views, and reports

Prerequisites

Before you begin, make sure you have:

  • Access to a Cloudaware account.
  • A user with access to the Admin Console and permissions to manage cloud accounts, organizations, and integrations (Cloudaware Administrator).
  • SWIS REST API accessible on a SolarWinds server.
  • SolarWinds username and password with read access to the required SolarWinds inventory data.
  • TunHub configured for private SolarWinds endpoints, if required. SolarWinds commonly uses port 17774.

Add a SolarWinds Server to Cloudaware

  1. In Cloudaware, go to Admin.
  2. Find SolarWinds, then click + ADD.
  3. Enter the following values:
    • URL: The SolarWinds URL.
      • For private endpoints, use the TunHub route URL in the format https://gw.tunhub.cloudaware.com:12345.
    • Username: The SolarWinds username.
    • Password: The SolarWinds password.
  4. Click Save.
  5. Confirm that the integration status indicator is green.

Allow the initial discovery cycle to complete after enabling the integration.

View SolarWinds Data in CMDB

  1. In Cloudaware, open CMDB Navigator.
  2. In the left pane, select SOLARWINDS.
  3. Open an object list, e.g., SolarWinds NPM Interfaces, to view discovered records.

Supported Objects

Cloudaware ingests the following SolarWinds objects:

Troubleshooting

Initial data collection may take time to complete.

Connection Fails or Integration Shows Red Status

  • Verify that the SolarWinds SWIS API URL, username, and password are correct.
  • Confirm that the SolarWinds server is reachable from Cloudaware. If the server is private, check the TunHub route.
  • Confirm that the SolarWinds SWIS API is available on the expected port, commonly 17774.

No SolarWinds Data Appears in CMDB

  • Allow the initial discovery cycle to complete.
  • Confirm that the SolarWinds user has read access to nodes, NPM interfaces, and platform server data.
  • In CMDB Navigator, verify that you are viewing the SOLARWINDS section and related resources.

Some Nodes or Interfaces Are Missing

  • Confirm that the missing nodes or interfaces are present in SolarWinds.
  • Verify that the SolarWinds user can read the required inventory data for the missing resources.
  • Review recent SolarWinds inventory updates after the next Cloudaware discovery cycle completes.

Reconfigure or Remove the Integration

To rotate credentials or change the SolarWinds endpoint, edit the existing integration instead of deleting and re-creating it.

Update the Integration Details

  1. Go to Admin.
  2. Select SolarWinds.
  3. Select the specific integration.
  4. Open the three-dot menu (), then click Edit.
  5. Update the required fields.
  6. Click Save.

Remove the Integration from Cloudaware

  1. Go to Admin.
  2. Select SolarWinds.
  3. Select the specific integration.
  4. Open the three-dot menu (), then click Delete.
  5. Confirm the deletion if prompted.

Security Notes

  • Use a dedicated SolarWinds account for Cloudaware discovery.
  • Grant the SolarWinds account only the read access required for nodes, interfaces, and platform server inventory.
  • Do not reuse privileged SolarWinds administrator credentials for the integration.
  • Rotate the SolarWinds password according to your organization's credential management policy.
  • Restrict network access to the SWIS API so only approved Cloudaware or TunHub connectivity paths can reach it.
  • Review SolarWinds inventory visibility with your network operations team, because node names, interface metadata, and platform server details may reveal sensitive infrastructure context.
