Network Discovery
Discover SNMP- and IP-based devices on internal networks and inventory them in Cloudaware CMDB.
- Audience: Cloudaware administrators, network engineers, and infrastructure operations teams
- Outcome: Network segments, devices, and interfaces are discovered and available in CMDB for inventory, relationship mapping, reporting, and operational review
Capabilities
The integration supports:
- Network segments, devices, and interfaces available in Cloudaware CMDB from SNMP- and IP-based discovery.
- Visibility into how discovered network devices relate to Cloudaware Applications and environments.
- Optional vulnerability scanning context for discovered devices when scanning is configured.
- CMDB list views and reports for reviewing discovered network inventory and coverage.
Prerequisites
Before you begin, make sure you have:
- Access to a Cloudaware account.
- A user with access to the Admin Console and permissions to manage cloud accounts, organizations, and integrations (Cloudaware Administrator).
- Breeze Agent installed on a Linux host with access to the target network.
- Target subnet details for the network segments to discover.
- SNMP profile details if SNMP discovery is required.
- SolarWinds server details if the segment uses SolarWinds data.
Add a Network Discovery Segment to Cloudaware
- In Cloudaware, go to Admin.
- Find Network Discovery, then click + ADD.
- Configure a network segment:
- Name: Enter a display name for the segment.
- Group: Select the group for the segment.
- Subnet(s): Enter the subnet or subnets to discover.
- Breeze Agent: Select the Breeze Agent that can access the target network.
- SNMP Profiles: Select SNMP profiles if SNMP discovery is required.
- SolarWinds Server: Select the SolarWinds server if applicable.
- Click Save.
- Confirm that the integration status indicator is green.
- Optional: configure a SNMP profile. Select the tab SNMP Profile, and click +ADD SNMP PROFILE:
- Name: Enter the SNMP profile name.
- Version: Select the SNMP version.
- For SNMPv3: insert values for User and Password. Select Security Level, Authentication Protocol, Encryption Algorithm, and Encryption Password.
- Port: (optional) Enter the port where SNMP is set up.
- Community: Enter the SNMP community. Click Save.
- Confirm that the integration status indicator is green.
View Network Discovery Data in CMDB
- In Cloudaware, open CMDB Navigator.
- In the left pane, select NETWORK DISCOVERY.
- Open an object list, e.g., Network Devices, to view records.
Supported Objects
Cloudaware ingests the following Network Discovery objects:
| Network Object | CMDB Object API Name |
|---|---|
| Network Device | CA10ND__CaNetworkDevice__c |
| Network Device Interface | CA10ND__CaNetworkDeviceInterface__c |
| Network Segment | CA10ND__CaNetworkSegment__c |
Network Vulnerability Scanning
Cloudaware provides vulnerability scanning for discovered network devices. Scan results are available on the network devices' records in the Cloudaware CMDB.
To request network vulnerability scanning, contact your Cloudaware technical account manager or Cloudaware Support at support@cloudaware.com.
Troubleshooting
Initial network discovery may take time to complete, especially for large subnets or SNMP-based discovery.
Integration Shows Red Status
- Verify that the selected Breeze Agent is online and can reach the target network.
- Confirm that the subnet, group, and segment settings are configured correctly.
- Check that the selected SNMP profiles contain valid credentials and the correct SNMP version.
- Re-enter the segment settings by editing the integration in Cloudaware.
Devices or Interfaces Are Missing
- Confirm that the target devices are reachable from the host where the Breeze Agent is installed.
- Verify that firewalls, routing rules, and access control lists allow discovery traffic from the Breeze Agent.
- Check that SNMP is enabled on the target devices when SNMP data is expected.
- In CMDB Navigator, verify that you are viewing the NETWORK DISCOVERY section and related resources.
SNMP Data Is Incomplete
- Confirm that the SNMP community string or credentials are correct.
- Verify that the selected SNMP version matches the target device configuration.
- Check that the target devices allow SNMP queries from the Breeze Agent host.
- Review the SNMP profile assigned to the network segment and update it if needed.

Reconfigure or Remove the Integration
To update segment settings or SNMP credentials, edit the existing integration instead of deleting and re-creating it.
Update the Integration Details
- Go to Admin.
- Select *Network Discovery.
- Select the specific integration.
- Open the three-dot menu (⋮), then click Edit.
- Update the required fields.
- Click Save.
Remove the Integration from Cloudaware
- Go to Admin.
- Select Network Discovery.
- Select the specific integration.
- Open the three-dot menu (⋮), then click Delete.
- Confirm the deletion if prompted.
Security Notes
- Run the Breeze Agent on a secured Linux host with network access limited to the subnets required for discovery.
- Use SNMP credentials with the minimum access required to collect inventory and interface details.
- Prefer SNMPv3 where supported because it provides stronger authentication and privacy controls than earlier SNMP versions.
- Store SNMP credentials only in approved credential stores and rotate them according to your organization's credential-rotation policy.
- Restrict discovery scopes to approved subnets to avoid collecting inventory from unintended networks.
- Review segment settings regularly to confirm that subnets, SNMP profiles, and SolarWinds connections still match the intended discovery scope.
