Datadog

Integrate Datadog with Cloudaware to discover monitors, dashboards, and related resources for unified monitoring governance and reporting.

info
  • Audience: Cloudaware administrators, SRE/DevOps
  • Outcome: The Datadog account is connected, and Datadog objects are available in the CMDB for coverage reporting and alert hygiene reviews

Capabilities

The integration supports:

  • Read-only discovery of Datadog monitors, dashboards, queries, downtimes, and graphs in the CMDB
  • Relationships between Datadog monitoring resources, applications, and related cloud or on-premises assets
  • Monitoring coverage and alert hygiene reporting in Cloudaware

Prerequisites

Before you begin, make sure you have:

  • Access to a Cloudaware account.
  • A user with access to the Admin Console and permissions to manage cloud accounts, organizations, and integrations (Cloudaware Administrator).
  • Datadog API Key.
  • Datadog Application Key with read access.

Add a Datadog Account to Cloudaware

To connect your Datadog account to Cloudaware:

  1. In Cloudaware, go to Admin.
  2. Find Datadog, then click + ADD.
  3. Enter the following values:
    • API Key: The Datadog API key.
    • Application Key: The Datadog application key.
  4. Click SAVE.
  5. Confirm that the integration status indicator is green.
note

The Site value is calculated dynamically by Cloudaware based on the API Key and Application Key values. To learn more about Sites, refer to Datadog documentation.

Troubleshooting

note

Initial data collection may take time to complete.

Authentication Fails or Integration Shows Red Status

  • Verify the API Key and Application Key values.
  • Confirm that the application key has the required read access.
  • Re-enter the keys by editing the integration in Cloudaware.

No Data Appears After a Successful Save

  • Allow the initial discovery cycle to complete.
  • Confirm that the Datadog account contains monitors, dashboards, queries, or downtimes that the keys can read.
  • In CMDB Navigator, verify that you are viewing the DATADOG section and related resources.

Multiple Datadog Organizations Need to Be Connected

  • Add a separate Cloudaware integration for each Datadog organization that must be discovered.
  • Use a key pair scoped to the organization being connected.

Still stuck? Contact Cloudaware Support at support@cloudaware.com with the integration name and a brief description of the issue.

Security Notes

  • Use dedicated Datadog keys for Cloudaware discovery.
  • Grant the minimum required read access for monitors, dashboards, downtimes, graphs, and queries.
  • Avoid using personal user keys for long-running integrations.
  • Rotate keys according to your organization's credential-rotation policy.
  • Update the Cloudaware integration immediately if either key is revoked or regenerated in Datadog.
